The American Civil Liberties Union is asking UMass Amherst for recordings from the school's police tip line.
Last month, police officers questioned an African-American UMass employee who was on his way in to work, based on an anonymous call.
The ACLU has requested recordings of the anonymous call alerting UMass police to an "agitated black male."
The organization also requested tape of the conversation between dispatch and responding officers before they questioned Reginald Andrade, whom the ACLU represents.
Massachusetts ACLU's Rahsaan Hall said the specifics of what happened will help dictate the organzation's next steps.
"Knowing what the caller actually said, and what, if any, recordings of any dispatch say, will help us evaluate whether or not there are proper or appropriate procedures in place,” Hall said.
In a statement, a UMass spokesman said the school is in the process of responding to the ACLU's records request.
