U.S. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut says President-elect Joe Biden’s administration should include more money for pedestrian and bicycle lanes in its federal transportation proposals.

Murphy just moved into a home in the Charter Oak neighborhood of Hartford. He says he’s found that it’s not as easy for cyclists and pedestrians to move around downtown Hartford.

Murphy said local resources are inadequate to improve the situation, and so, the federal government needs to help so people can get to work in a variety of means.

“I’m a member of the appropriations committee and I’m going to be fighting for more money from Washington going to states and municipalities to help build pedestrian pathways and bike lanes to invest in mass transit,” Murphy said during a Northeast multimodal and transit summit organized by the Hartford-based Center for Latino Progress and Transport Hartford.

Governor Ned Lamont has said Connecticut is counting on Biden’s federal infrastructure proposals to help fund several transportation projects.
