A union is accusing management of a western Massachusetts home health provider of intimidating employees who are attempting to unionize.
More than 300 health aides and companions work for Golden Years Home Care Services in East Longmeadow.
Later this month, they'll vote on whether to join the Service Employees International Union.
The union said it's filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board, accusing the company of pressuring employees not to organize.
"They've been holding mandatory captive audience meetings and they had security that would both surveil and monitor people as they were coming in and out of the parking lot and just actively working to discourage workers from doing what they have the right to do," said SEIU's Dana Alas.
In a statement, Golden Years CEO Cesar Ruiz Jr. said the company opposes the effort to unionize.
"We believe we are among the best employers in the home care industry," Ruiz said. "We are proud of our relationship with our employees, one of the most dynamic and diverse places to work in Western Massachusetts."
The statement, which also accused the union of spreading "false information," did not directly address the union's allegations.
