Concerns About Workplace Safety? Mass. AG Touts COVID-19 Hotline For That

The Massachusetts Attorney General's office has launched a hotline for employees to report unsafe working conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initiative is designed to address concerns about cleanliness, social distancing and a lack of personal protective equipment in the workplace.

Attorney General Maura Healey encourages workers to file complaints about companies that require symptomatic employees to come to work, or that retaliate against workers for advocating for a safer workplace.

"In the rush and the pressure to open businesses, employers may threaten employees, and tell them they have to come back to work even if they're sick," Healey told NEPR. "And under the law, employers can't retaliate against their workers if they are doing something lawful, like speaking up for their own health and safety."

Complaints can be called in or submitted anonymously online.

According to the Attorney General’s office, some of the information in a complaint may be posted on its website, but the office won’t make public the name of the person submitting the complaint.
