Philadelphia Orchestra Guest Conductor Marin Alsop returns to SPAC leading the orchestra in a dazzling evening of Tchaikovsky featuring the 1812 Overture with live cannon fire and a brilliant fireworks display. Opening the program is The Philadelphia Orchestra’s lush and romantic interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, followed by the composer’s thunderingly dramatic and achingly beautiful Romeo and Juliet, instantly recognizable thanks to its use throughout pop culture.

Opening the evening is Aaron Copland’s iconic Fanfare for the Common Man (1943), paired with Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman (1986), a contemporary work inspired by Copland. Tower dedicated her fanfare to conductor Marin Alsop, calling it a tribute to “women who take risks and are adventurous,” a perfect introduction to an evening of bold musical statements.
The Orchestra then presents the SPAC debut of Mozart’s deeply lyrical Piano Concerto No. 23, featuring pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason in her SPAC and Orchestra debut, following recent appearances by her siblings Isata Kanneh-Mason and Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
Closing the program is Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 1, a sweeping exploration of personal journey and human emotion, rounding out an evening of timeless and powerful works.

Returning to SPAC for the first time since 2014, two-time Tony® Award–winning Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell leads an “American Dreams” program, highlighted by his narration of Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait — a stirring reflection on unity, equality, and democratic responsibility. In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the program also pays tribute to Marian Anderson’s landmark performance of the work at SPAC 50 years ago, linking past and present in a celebration of American ideals.
The evening continues with Broadway favorites, including “Wheels of a Dream” from Ragtime, the role Mitchell originally brought to life, “The Impossible Dream” (Man of La Mancha), and Iryna Aleksiychuk’s Go Where the Wind Takes You…, dedicated to the courageous women of Ukraine, before concluding with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, a masterwork inspired by American musical traditions and the nation’s evolving identity. Together, these works honor the past while inspiring hope for the future.

Legendary GRAMMY Award-winning pianist Emanuel Ax, Musical America’s 2026 “Artist of the Year,” returns to SPAC to perform one of Beethoven’s most iconic works alongside The Philadelphia Orchestra!
The program opens with Beethoven’s exuberant and powerful Piano Concerto No. 5 (“Emperor”), the composer’s last concerto and a piece at the core of Ax’s repertoire. The second half of the program features Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, a dramatic and soaring work inspired by Beethoven’s Ninth, including the composer’s interpretation of the famous “Ode to Joy” theme.

Philadelphia Orchestra Music and Artistic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin returns to SPAC to anchor the 60th anniversary season with the return of the piece that opened the Orchestra’s first season at SPAC in 1966, Beethoven’s iconic Ninth Symphony, featuring a star-studded cast of soloists—soprano Leah Hawkins, mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges, tenor Issachah Savage, and bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green — joined by Albany Pro Musica.

The Philadelphia Orchestra concertmaster and violinist David Kim takes center stage as both leader and soloist in a performance celebrating SPAC’s 60th anniversary theme, Seasons. Featuring beloved and highly recognizable works from the classical repertoire, this program promises to captivate orchestra fans and newcomers alike.
Opening the program is Bach’s serene and timeless Air, from Orchestral Suite No. 3, one of Bach’s most famous movements. It’s followed by Mozart’s bright and lyrical Eine kleine Nachtmusik, the composer’s best-known serenade and one of the most-performed pieces in classical music. Anchoring the program is a paired performance of two iconic works: Vivaldi’s pastoral The Four Seasons and the SPAC premiere of Piazzolla’s tango-and-jazz-influenced The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.

Experience works by American composers with The Philadelphia Orchestra, led by rising star New Zealand conductor Gemma New, making her SPAC debut. The program opens with Montgomery’s Strum for string orchestra, a folk-inspired and layered piece that speaks to the versatility of modern classical music. Closing out the program is Gershwin’s atmospheric An American in Paris, another jazz-inspired piece and an iconic work beloved by concertgoers for nearly a century.
