Artist Muriel 'Monik' Johnson, Miles for Music fundraiser, Rep. Jim McGovern

On August 8th in Northampton’s A.P.E. Gallery, the stories of several continents and generations will culminate in one woman’s performance. Muriel “Monik” Johnson has been telling tales from here and beyond for decades, and uses them as a base for her careers in education and art. We speak with the modern day griot about her one night only show “Fredella Mae’s Daughter is a Storyteller,” in addition to the inspiration taken from her life and beyond.

Two local music venues collaborate to support each other and the local scene with a fundraiser this September. Miles for Music will have music lovers walk or run from The Drake in Amherst to The Iron Horse in Northampton to raise funds and awareness for both non-profits. We speak with the executive directors of each, Claudia Pazmany and Chris Freeman, about this effort.

And Rep. Jim McGovern may be tired of rehashing the issues of our war in Iran and the benefits cut from the latest proposed Farm Bill, but we’ll hear how a 40 million dollar agricultural reimbursement, the latest primary results, and more keep him going during Congress’ break.
